New indie occupies historic Queen Theater building

“Where real stories are shared”

Intermission Bookshop held its grand opening on August 29, celebrating Independent Bookstore Day 2020.

Intermission is located in the historic Queen Theater building in downtown Brownwood. Local artists created the mural on the façade.

Kim and Brant Bruton are the owners of the bookshop and emphasize that Intermission aspires to be a community resource. “It’s about community. It’s about relationship and the success of this bookstore will not be measured in dollars. It will not fail. It can’t fail because it’s about relationship,” Kim told the Brownwood Bulletin.

The name Intermission Bookshop has a couple of meanings. It’s a nod to the former Queen Theater. “And also, intermission means to pause, to break, to cease striving,” Kim explained.

Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; the store is closed on Sunday and Monday.
