“We’re just looking to amplify Oak Cliff’s literary culture, while doing something we love.”
Poets of Oak Cliff held a soft opening on January 31, 2020.
Poets of Oak Cliff is a small neighborhood bookshop and writing community. The shop is divided into two sections, literary and discourses. Literary features new releases and award-winning fiction and poetry. The discourses section contains nonfiction new releases with a focus on modern philosophy, intellectual discourse, history, and essay collections. They will have typed poems from local writer Marco Cavazos available in the shop.
Cavazos opened Poets of Oak Cliff with business partners Kelsi Cavazos and Russell Hargraves. They also own the adjacent Cigar Art together. They originally envisioned a writers’ space, but that evolved into a bookstore with a focus on poetry.
“Our vision is to be a community bookshop,” Hargraves told the Oak Cliff Advocate. “We’re not looking for a huge footprint or a giant online presence. We’re just looking to amplify Oak Cliff’s literary culture, while doing something we love.”
Poets of Oak Cliff is located at 506 N. Bishop Ave, across the street from Lockhart Barbecue.
Their website is a work in progress, but you can follow Poets of Oak Cliff on Facebook for news and events.
