Openings, closings, updates, and awards

 

Texas bookstores, publishers, and libraries are thriving. Read on for the updates since our last roundup.  

 

Amarillo 

Chapterhouse Books will soon have a brick & mortar location at 3317 SW 6th. They plan to have the space at least partially open for an author signing event on June 1st.  

 

Austin 

Weeva is a ‘new to us’ publisher specializing in visual books, such as art and photography books, student journals, and kids' picture books. 

 

Clifton 

Tolstoy & Co. Bookshop opened their new location at 327 W. 5th Street on May 8 in downtown Clifton. 

 

Houston 

Barnes & Noble’s Town and Country location will reopen in November after a temporary closure for remodeling. 

 

Blue Willow Bookshop is expanding and adding about 1,400 square feet of space to be used for events, storage, shipping, and receiving. Renovations are underway, with the new space slated to open mid-July. 

 

McKinney 

Neighbor Books announced that they will open this summer at 208 E. Louisiana St. Owners Joey and Ginny Honescko plan to feature a wide selection of books, drinks, and local events.  

 

Mesquite 

Half Price Books closed their Mesquite location on May 5th after the lease ended. 

 

Roanoke 

Tropes Bookstore is a ‘new to us’ pop-up bookstore operating in the Roanoke area. They are actively searching for the perfect brick & mortar location.  

 

Other Industry News: 

Bee Cave Library was awarded the Libraries Change Communities Award from the Texas Library Association for the Books and Bees Festival. The award recognizes “positive achievements and promotes outstanding library-based initiatives in Texas.”
